In Memoriam: Professor Sir David Todd

(Hong Kong, 17 August 2017) We mourn the passing of Professor Sir David Todd last night, 16 August 2017. Sir David had completed the full circle – departed from Queen Mary Hospital where his medical education matured and exceptional career achievement endured, taken care by those he had taught and surrounded by his family, beloved students and mentees.
Sir David was a selfless clinician, educator and academician, and had contributed immensely to the development of medicine in Hong Kong. He was Head of the Department of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong from 1974 to 1989, Founding President of the Hong Kong College of Physicians established in 1986 and a member of the first Hospital Authority Board in 1990. He remained as an Emeritus Professor of the University of Hong Kong following his retirement in 1994. Sir David was also instrumental in the establishment of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, an independent statutory institution which oversees the city’s postgraduate medical specialist training, and served as its Founding President from 1992 until 1996.
Sir David is lovingly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues and students.
