The University deeply regrets that the HKUSU ignores the University’s advice and continues to organise a film screening on campus that is at risk of non-compliance with legal requirements. We are most disappointed that the HKUSU has labeled our well-intended reminders as “threats” and acts of “suppression of students’ freedom of speech”, and even condemned the University. The University reiterates that it is against Hong Kong independence and would not condone any violation or attempted violation of the law.
The University has a duty to maintain an open and safe campus. We will review the fitness of our arrangements with HKUSU and clearly define the responsibilities of all parties concerned in order to manage risk on campus and to better serve our students and staff bodies.
