In his talk, Professor Levitt will show us the way to understand social issues such as crime, corruption and education in the real world through economic and data analysis. He will also explain the Chicago approach and its development in particular. His innovative findings include, among others, successful parenting has more to do with who the parents than how they parent, and crime rates dropped in the 1990s as a result of the legalization of abortion. His book Freakonomics (with Stephen J. Dubner) published earlier this year is a best-seller and is said to reveal "the hidden side of everything”.
