Professor Rice played a key role in one of the most successful US higher education fund-raising campaigns, which raised over US$1 billion in 10 years. He was Vice Chancellor at the New York University, USA from 1991 to 1996 and has been Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, UK since September 1996. Professor Rice has published widely as a professional historian and is the recipient of many academic awards including fellowships at Harvard and Yale. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Professor C Duncan Rice will speak at the Ian Davies Distinguished Lecture 2006 on a topic that interests us all – "Universities and Communities – Local Frontiers and a Wider World". HKU Ex-Vice Chancellor Professor Ian Davies will also be present at the Lecture.
