In her talk entitled 'Globalisation, Rise of the Knowledge-based Economy and the Future of Hong Kong', Mrs. Ip would share her views with the students on how Hong Kong can make itself even more competitive so as to face the ever-growing challenges from the outside world. Mrs. Ip, a HKU alumna herself, has just set up a think tank, Savantas Policy Institute, in which she serves as Chairperson of the Board of Governors. Also present at the ceremony is Professor Victor Sit from HKU Department of Geography, who will speak on the topic of 'Nature of the Chinese Economy and its Prospects'.
AIPE 2006 is sponsored by HKU School of Economics and Finance, in conjunction with The Fund for American Studies and Georgetown University in Washington D.C. This year, more than 60 outstanding students from HKU as well as other top universities in the Chinese Mainland, Australia, Cambodia, the Czech Republic, Singapore, India, Japan, Laos, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States will attend this 3-week intensive programme at the University campus.
In addition to the conventional course lectures, students will be able to meet with those who excel in their own professions and learn from their insights into the current development and future trend of the region's political economy. Renowned speakers include the Better Hong Kong Foundation Chairman Dr. Ronnie Chan, US Vice Consul Mr. Donald Conner, and former Solicitor General Mr. Daniel Fung to name a few.
The opening ceremony of AIPE 2006, which will be officiated by HKU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Joseph Lee, will take place tomorrow, July 29, 2:45 – 4:45pm, at Convocation Room, Main Building, Room 218, HKU.

Mrs. Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee will speak for the students of the Asia Institute for Political Economy (AIPE) summer academic programme 2006 at its opening ceremony which will take place tomorrow, July 29.
