Around the first century, the northern Xiongnu migrated to the west and this marked the beginning of the Steppe Silk Road - the oldest branch of the Silk Road crossing the Eurasian steppes. The Steppe Silk Road began in Central Asia and eastern Europe in the west, reaching Mongolia and Siberia in the north to the central plains of China in the south. This is an exhibition organised to demonstrate the unique characteristics of nomadic civilization which is the result of the integration of the cultures of the northern steppe and that of the central plains of China and the West.
