HKU's Response to the Circulation of a Video Clip involving HKU Students

1. The University confirms that a video clip involving HKU students has been distributed and circulated, and the students concerned have already been contacted. To date, the University has no information of the origin of the circulation. The University will not disclose any personal details of the students involved due to privacy concerns.
2. The University respects the personal privacy of its students' lives as consenting adults. It also recognises the importance of the provision of ethical education and the nurturing of responsible citizens. The University will review the need to strengthen its privacy education programmes and activities.
3. The University consistently reminds its students to look after their personal information properly and to respect the property of others. Anyone in possession of files or documents that are the private property of other individuals should delete or destroy the information immediately.
4. The University will continue to investigate the matter. It will take stern action against HKU students involved in illegal activities, and will consider initiating Disciplinary Committee procedures if they are proven to be involved in the dissemination and distribution of the video clip.
5. The University appeals to its students and all members of society to consider the effect of the continued circulation of the video clip on the daily lives, emotions and feelings of the students involved and to stop its distribution and circulation immediately.
6. If required, the University will provide legal guidance and counselling to the students concerned.
