Prof Jao Tsung-I was recently awarded with Fellowship of China Central Research Institute of Culture and History, and became the first Hong Kong scholar crowned with this laurel. To celebrate this honor of the university, a ceremony was held at University Lodge on February 19 afternoon.
Prof Jao Tsung-I is the worldwide renowned scholar and a versatile talent in Chinese learning. He contributes to various aspects of humanities, including archaeology, literature, philology, musicology, history, etc. The ceremony was well attended by many distinguishable guests, including not but limited to Mr. Gang Li, Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, Mrs. Betty Tung, Miss Margaret FONG, Commissioner for Tourism, Miss Rochelle LAU, Chief Librarian of Hong Kong Central Library, and Presidents of Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole Fan Club.
Founded by the Chinese government in 1949, China Central Research Institute of Culture and History is an institute for senior intellects and honorary purposes. With an objective "to respect elders and to promote culture", the fellowship is directly appointed and presented by Premier of the State Council, and the merit only went to the most respectable and honorable names of the date.
