In continuation of this meaningful event, as well as part of the 90th Anniversary celebration of the University of Hong Kong, HKU has been invited by Tsinghua University to act as an alternate host for this competition. The competition has been scheduled in Hong Kong on January 20-27, 2002 with an expanded list of participating universities. These universities include: University of Macau, National University of Singapore, National Taiwan University, Tongji University, Tsinghua University, and the host, the University of Hong Kong. Each university will send two to three teams to participate in the competition.
A total of 15 teams of 45 students from the six universities will participate in this competition. Each team will have to build a "Millenium Tower" model. On January 25 there will be an exhibition and loading test of the models held in Loke Yew Hall on HKU's main campus at 2:00pm and 3:30pm respectively.

Inter-University Invitational Civil Engineering Competition

The “Structure Design Invitational Tournament” in Beijing was hosted by the Department of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University in January 2000. The Departments of Civil Engineering of the University of Hong Kong, and University of Macau were invited to participate in the competition. Together with the host university, 13 teams of students were involved in designing, fabricating and load testing a bridge model.
