A team led by Dr Mark Shum was awarded $3.3 million for a project on advancing mother tongue education up to matriculation level. The project will study effective approaches to enhancing students' subject-specific writing skills.
Dr Nancy Law received $1.65 million for a project on establishing a network of primary and secondary schools interested in integrating online collaborative knowledge building activities in the school curriculum. The goal of this project is to support schools in introducing new forms of learning activities that will help students develop lifelong learning capacities important for the information age.
Dr Leung Man Tak's project will establish a treatment programme for slow learners in Primary 1 and 2 while Dr Samuel Leung's project will assist language-delayed children in kindergartens.
The project led by Dr Christine Davison is also in the domain of language. It aims to promote the development of effective school-based assessment practices in English Language teaching in secondary schools.
"I am pleased that amidst keen competition, our Faculty has successfully secured funding for five projects," said Professor Mark Bray, Dean of the Faculty of Education. "Our Faculty has always stressed quality education. The latest round of grants will provide valuable support to our Faculty to accomplish this mission," he added.

HKU Faculty of Education Won Five QEF Projects

The Faculty of Education of the University of Kong Kong (HKU) has been awarded a total of $6.12 million for five projects from the 7th call of applications to the Quality Education Fund (QEF). All five projects are related to the improvement of learning and teaching effectiveness in local schools.
